Ohio State Football: Former 5 Star Quincy Porter Becomes The First Freshman To Get Their Black Stripe Removed in the 2025 Season
One of the top recruits in the Buckeyes 2025 Class has been impressive and clearly enough to lose his black stripe at Student Appreciation Day.
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Ohio State’s tradition of removing the black stripe from a player’s helmet means one thing — they’ve earned their place as a Buckeye. And this year, wide receiver Quincy Porter was the first freshman to make it happen.
Porter lost his stripe during the Buckeyes’ Student Appreciation Day practice today just 11 practices into his college career. That’s a huge statement for a young receiver trying to find his way in a deep and talented WR room.
Coming out of Bergen Catholic in New Jersey, Porter was a big-time playmaker. He hauled in 57 catches for 969 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, and his full high school career saw over 2,600 yards and nearly 40 TDs.
Losing the black stripe this early doesn’t just mean Porter is talented — it means he’s handling business, earning trust, and buying into the Buckeye standard.
