BREAKING: Gordon State College 3B Gavin West Commits to Ohio State!
A Top JUCO Prospect Picks The Buckeyes Over Other Programs
COLUMBUS, OHIO — On Wednesday Night, the Ohio State Buckeyes secured a commitment from one of the top JUCO prospects in the country. That being 3B Gavin West from Gordon State College. West has been a phenomenal hitter this season for GSU and is set to bring that to Columbus next season.
West becomes another commitment for Coach Haire and co. The Macon (GA) native has been a force for Gordon State College.
West comes in standing at 6’0 and weighing 190lbs. He will have two years of eligibility remaining as he’s only a sophomore. He mainly plays 3B but can play SS as well. He attended Academy for Classical Education out of Macon, Georgia. Then he committed to Gordon State College. His sophomore campaign has been outstanding, as he’s played in 42 Games. In those 42 games, he’s posted a .363 AVG, 20 HRs, 55 RBIs, 48 R’s, and 9 SBs. He has an OBP% of .523 and SLG% of .911.
His swing is incredibly smooth, and has great mechanics. He has some underrated pop for his size. Has an excellent eye as well, he’s been walked 30 times this season. He’s solid in the field, and needs to develop a tad bit defensively. But, could really see some time early if he can just adapt quick. His offense is a big part of his game.
In his freshman season at Gordon State College, he was also phenomenal. He played in 50 games and put up a .333 AVG with 56 hits, 51 RBIs, 25 XBH. He had 13 Errors but has brought that number down to 8 this season. He could still work some more at his Defensive game.
He joins a trend of JUCO recruits making their way to Ohio State’s Baseball program. Justin Haire is certainly doing very well on the recruiting trail.
